Joshua’s Place is a residential home in Lansing, Michigan, scheduled to start construction by summer 2016. The residence, at this time, will be for developmentally disabled males over eighteen to enable them to live as independently as possible in a nourishing environment where supportive services are provided. While independence is a goal, oversight is very important, especially to insure medications are taken as prescribed and that residents look their best whether at church, on outings, or dressing appropriately for weather or work. Potential residents and their guardians are currently being interviewed.
The architect has captured the Board’s wishes in the exterior elevation and lay-out of the interior rooms. The brick and stone exterior set on 4.85 acres will require little maintenance, and look in place alongside the middle class homes in Saratoga Woods. There is room for a rain garden, flower & vegetable plots, and a basketball mini-court. Deer, turkeys, and other wild life have been seen. A total of 800+ feet of sidewalk on the south &We want the bedrooms to be spacious, and they will be. Each private room will have 200+ square feet of living area, and the spacious great room will be for dining, dances, and other group activities. There will be twenty-four hour staffing with trained, friendly, personnel. Licensing will be by the Michigan State Licensing division.
It was decided at the conception of Joshua’s Place that it would be an organization that reflects the Christian value system and incorporates the moral teachings of the Hebrew & Christian old and new testaments . This value system welcomes all persons regardless of race, ethnic background, or religious affiliation, if any. Personnel will work with the residents place of worship so they can attend services of their choice if they are so inclined.
